Worried about carrying your passport on a night out in Seoul? A clear photocopy or digital copy may be all you need. Just check with your venue before leaving the original at your accommodation.
Here’s a simple guide to Seoul nightlife age limits and ID checks, whether you’re joining an SNL experience or heading out with friends.
What is the drinking age in Korea?
You can buy alcohol from 1 January of the year you turn 19. You don’t need to wait until your birthday later that year. The same rule applies to visitors. Official age rule.
Some clubs and events set a higher entry age, so check the details for the night you’re planning.
What ID should I bring?
For SNL nights, photocopies and digital copies of your passport are accepted. Make sure the copy is clear and shows your photo, full name and date of birth.
Using your phone? Save the image before you leave so you can open it without Wi-Fi. Keep enough battery for the journey home, too.
If you’re visiting other venues independently, check their ID policy, as some may ask for the original. Unsure what to bring for your SNL booking? Ask us before the night and we’ll help.
What happens at the door?
Staff may ask to see your ID and check your photo and date of birth. Some clubs also have an upper age limit, so an ID check isn’t only about being old enough to enter. Check the age range for your chosen venue or event before you go. Having your ID ready helps keep things moving.
It’s also worth checking the dress code before choosing your outfit. Our Seoul nightlife dress-code guide makes that part easier.
